International Double Victory for the Twins

Youth Team Dominant from the Start; Men's Team Holds Its Own in the Final Innings

Domenik Otte - 11 Mar 2016

The youth team dominated the game from the beginning and took the lead as early as the second inning.

The Offenbach Twins were able to keep the opposing team in check not only because of their strong offense, but also because the Twins had a strong pitcher/catcher combination in Samuel Selomon (pitcher) and Pedro Maikel (catcher). Pedro had already learned to play the sport as a child in the Dominican Republic.

If the pitcher/catcher combination was ever overcome, the opposing team still failed against the very well-organized infield of the Offenbach Twins.

Among the highlights of the game were two RBIs in the third inning, a triple hit by Fermin Severino (Offenbach Twins), and the excellent defensive work of young catcher Pedro Maikel, who repeatedly made dangerous throws to the bases and thereby prevented several stolen bases.

The young Offenbach Twins team presented itself as a highly motivated squad that mastered the baseball rules and consistently made the right tactical decisions on the field.

“I was surprised by how much emotion the adults showed during the game between the young players and how they cheered the young athletes nonstop,” said the Twins head coach.

The men's game began very calmly and evenly, and only gradually did the Offenbach Twins establish themselves and extend their lead in the final innings.

The batters were able to accomplish little offensively and therefore had to take advantage of every small mistake by the defensive team to reach base.

From the third inning onward, the game became exciting as it became clear that the Dutch team's energy was beginning to fade. That was the chance. The Offenbach Twins were then able to really get going and make contact with the ball more and more often, which was presumably also reflected positively on the scoreboard. Ultimately, the team from the Netherlands caught up and began to quickly reduce the deficit.

In the end, the two-day trip was a great experience for both teams after a hard winter training period and a good start to the 2016 baseball season.
