Mid-Season Review of the Youth Team in the Hessian Verbandsliga

Once Again, Almost Half of the 2023 Season Is Behind Us

In March, the team still consisted of six players who were actually too young for the Verbandsliga, but brave enough to play in the highest youth league. Reinforcements from Leibniz Gymnasium Offenbach joined and completed the team.

By visiting Leibniz Gymnasium, we were able to recruit older players who are at least 14 and 15 years old and can therefore be more competitive.

Since most of the players did not know much about baseball in March, we had a lot of catching up to do and created a training schedule with five days per week. Some children cannot train on certain days because they have tutoring or for personal or religious reasons, so they train on other days to ensure that every player can train at least twice a week.

During our visit to Leibniz Gymnasium, we once again noticed that the young people there have a great deal of endurance and discipline that we can build on.

When we realized that the first games were against the strongest teams, we were concerned that one or another player might be disappointed. On the contrary, most players asked for more training sessions and came out of the first defeats stronger.

We have already played the strongest teams, and now we look ahead to the next rounds with greater confidence. Our slogan is well known: “We can do it!”
