Project Week at Leibniz School, June 25–28, 2012

It Was a Great Sports Event in Perfect Weather!

"The 2012 project week at Leibniz School confirmed my assumption: “You don't have to grow up with this sport to be good at baseball; ambition and determination are the decisive factors.”

During our second visit to Leibniz School Offenbach in 2012, we once again had a great deal of fun and discovered many new sporting talents at the same time. We particularly appreciated the attention and discipline of the students who took part in our sports event.

During our first visit, we were already able to recruit two new players for our youth team, who could be used in four official games after the school holidays and help us compete against the other youth teams in the Hessian league. As we all know, Hesse has one of the toughest leagues in Germany, and we have to prove ourselves against more experienced teams. That is why we were happy to meet Sören and Kai during our first visit.

Under the pseudonyms “White Sox” and “Rangers,” the teams competed against each other in friendly games with plenty of heart and good weather. For four whole days they created not only a great atmosphere but also plenty of excitement!

The students of Leibniz School Offenbach offered everything you see in Major League Baseball games in America: home runs, double plays, spectacular flyouts, close “out” and “safe” decisions at the bases, outs at home plate, force outs at second and third base, and plenty of hits, doubles and triples. And all of it mixed with lots of excitement, emotion and close results!

How do the students already know so many rules and manage to perform so well in their very first game?! We suspect that many have a good connection to America, others may have watched games in stadiums or at least on television, or may already have encountered the sport at school.

The partnership with Leibniz School Offenbach moved one step forward during the 2012 project week, and we are looking forward to future visits and sports events. Above all, we are excited to find new talents at future sports events, give students an insight into our club activities and awaken their enthusiasm for the game.
