Project Week at Edith-Stein-School in Offenbach

During a Heat Wave with Temperatures of up to 38°C in the Shade, Our Students Preferred Playing Baseball!

The project week of Edith-Stein-School took place at the SG Sportzentrum Rosenhöhe from Monday, July 20 to Friday, July 24, 2015, with 21 seventh- and eighth-grade students taking part.

Under the direction of Martin Kröhnert, Gunther von Goetzen Sanchez and Mario Kuprešak, the students of Edith-Stein-School played baseball for a week. They showed a great deal of discipline, enjoyment of the sport and, above all, that the baseball program in Offenbach is a good project that we definitely want to continue.

After a brief introduction to the rules for newcomers and after completing the first training sessions with catching and batting practice on the first day, the already experienced boys and girls were able to play their first friendly game on the second day. Among the 21 participants, some from different age groups, we were able to create a balanced team distribution between boys and girls.

With an average of one to two hours per day in the batting cage and with the help of the pitching machine, the players received the finishing touches in hitting the ball and achieved a very good contact rate.

On Wednesday, temperatures rose so high that we spontaneously brought plastic buckets from the groundskeeper and turned the game into a water party until nobody was dry. It was undoubtedly a well-deserved and welcome refreshment after a hard training day.

At the same time as our project week, interesting project weeks were taking place at many other Offenbach schools and training companies, so we happened to meet another group that was also taking part in a project week.

We did not hesitate for long and spontaneously invited them to a friendly game. Although seemingly clearly advantaged because of the age difference and better physical build, the opposing baseball team unfortunately still lost in the end because the Edith-Stein-School team knew the rules better and was very well coordinated defensively.
